Carl J. Walker, M.D.

BOARD CERTIFIED UROLOGIST

I am Dr. Carl J. Walker, a Board Certified Urologist. I am excited about providing comprehensive and compassionate care for my patients. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and Orange County, attended college at Stanford University, and attended University of California, San Diego for medical school and residency.

My wife and I decided to relocate with our 3 young children to the mid-west after residency. We enjoyed our time there, but desired to return to our California “roots” and our extended family. In my free time, I enjoy tennis, golf, cycling, traveling, church activities and spending time with my family.

ABOUT MY PRACTICE

What drew me to urology as a medical student was the balance of medical and surgical techniques used to treat patients with varied conditions. I enjoy utilizing minimally invasive techniques, including the Da Vinci robotic platform,  to treat benign and malignant conditions. I enjoy the challenge of treating all aspects of urology, and have special interest in male sexual health (testosterone optimization and erectile dysfunction) and voiding dysfunction, including treatment of BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy), stone disease and incontinence.

Empowering my patients to be involved in their health and providing them with options for treatment is important to me. Over the past several years, I have dedicated many hours at health fairs and screenings, educational seminars and overseas mission trips in an attempt to educate and give back.

In addition, I have embraced the concept that in order for the body to function optimally and combat infection/ cancer risks, special attention needs to be given to nutritional, lifestyle and environmental factors. Collaboration with progressive colleagues is necessary to promote an understanding of how to best individualize treatment for the patients we are blessed to provide care for.

I have a special interest in male sexual wellness (“mancologist”); Many of my male patients a significant loss of energy/ performance and libido as they age, and are hesitant to seek help for these issues. They can feel depressed and frustrated, and their spouses feel that they have lost interest and this can significantly impact on marital harmony. It is very satisfying to offer these men safe and effective treatments and restore their sense of well-being.

It is both challenging and intriguing to be able to offer options that are tailored to meet specific needs, particularly when surgical options and prescription medications may cause unwanted side effects/ risks:

Examples of Such Options Include:

  • In-office procedures to relieve prostate obstruction/ urine retention without need for general anesthesia (Prostatic Urethral Lift- UroLift)
  • Small gauge needle placed above ankle with low level electrical stimulation to treat overactive bladder/ urge incontinence without medication (Urgent PC)
  • Placement of “buffer” gel between rectum and prostate to minimize risk of rectal injury, incontinence and erectile dysfunction during radiation treatment for prostate cancer (SpaceOAR)
  • Utilizing low-intensity shockwave therapy (Gainswave) to “rehabiliate” blood flow to the genitalia and effectively treat erectile dysfunction without medications (i.e. Viagra, Cialis)
